Helping families find a relevant local tutoring option.
Huntington Learning Center of Chesterfield/Ellisville is located at 1370 Clarkson Clayton Center, Ellisville, MO 63011. Its official location page lists K–12 subject tutoring and ACT, SAT, PSAT, and high-school entrance exam preparation. Its case study follows local search visibility for tutoring and test-preparation queries, alongside changes in Google Business Profile activity.
For a tutoring business, those searches represent different needs. A family seeking a math tutor may search differently from a student preparing for the ACT. The campaign addressed the business information families encounter in Google and measured visibility across several relevant searches.

This local SEO case study brings the work and the reported results together, showing both the annual profile comparison and a separate snapshot of map rankings.

Fresh Semrush data puts national organic keyword difficulty between 21 and 50 out of 100, with estimated paid-search costs of $6.52–$13.98 per click. Competition varies by query. These estimates provide national search context; the original grids below show the separate local ranking changes.
| Tracked keyword | US searches / month | St. Louis searches / month | US organic KD / 100 | US CPC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SAT tutoring near me | 2,400 | Not verified | 21 | $13.98 |
| Tutoring services near me | 1,900 | Not verified | 35 | $6.52 |
| ACT prep near me | 720 | Not verified | 35 | $6.88 |
| Math tutor | 22,200 | Not verified | 50 | $7.92 |
Local demand is not national volume—or website traffic. The connected Semrush report provides country-level estimates. City-level figures were not available in the connected report. We have not multiplied national volume by a population share or presented it as local traffic. St. Louis city, the wider metro, and the deck’s 10-mile Ellisville scan area are different geographies.
Monthly volume estimates search demand, not unique people, clicks, inquiries, or students. Organic keyword difficulty measures competition for organic results, not Google Maps. CPC is an advertising estimate, not the value of an SEO visit. Semrush Keyword Overview · How local metrics work.

September 2 → October 2, 2025: a first-month comparison of four relevant tutoring searches. These original screenshots are extracted from the slide deck, arranged in the same before-and-after order. These summaries describe net changes between snapshots, not tracked movement of individual pins.

6 more grid points in the top seven
Top-three points increased from 40 to 43 (+7.5%). Positions 4–7 also expanded, from 15 to 18. Together, the top seven grew from 55 to 61 points (+10.9%).
| Ranking band | Sept. 2 | Oct. 2 | Net change | Relative change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Positions 1–3 | 40 | 43 | +3 points | +7.5% |
| Positions 4–7 | 15 | 18 | +3 points | +20% |
| Positions 8–19 | 22 | 19 | −3 points | −13.6% |
| Combined positions 1–7 | 55 | 61 | +6 points | +10.9% |
How to read the change: The improvement extends beyond the top three: the business appeared in positions 1–7 at six more sampled search locations overall. The 8–19 group shrank by three points, consistent with stronger overall coverage, although these totals do not identify which individual pins changed.
The slide labels the top-three gain as 9%; the counts 40 → 43 calculate to 7.5%.
Counts come from slide 4; relative changes are recalculated. Combined positions 1–7 is a subtotal, not an additional group. The three reported bands total 77 points before and 80 after. The slide does not explain all points outside those bands; omitted points are not assumed to be unranked.

5 more grid points in the top three
Top-three points increased from 35 to 40 (+14.3%). The 4–7 group fell by one point, while the combined top seven still grew from 48 to 52 (+8.3%).
| Ranking band | Sept. 2 | Oct. 2 | Net change | Relative change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Positions 1–3 | 35 | 40 | +5 points | +14.3% |
| Positions 4–7 | 13 | 12 | −1 point | −7.7% |
| Positions 8–19 | 24 | 20 | −4 points | −16.7% |
| Combined positions 1–7 | 48 | 52 | +4 points | +8.3% |
How to read the change: This query gained five top-three placements on a net basis. Fewer points remained in positions 8–19 (24 → 20). The strongest change is the larger top-three presence; the bucket totals alone cannot prove that five specific pins moved from positions 4–7 into the top three.
The deck’s 24 → 20 change for positions 8–19 calculates to −16.7%, rather than the −20% shown on the slide.
Counts come from slide 5; relative changes are recalculated. Combined positions 1–7 is a subtotal, not an additional group. The three reported bands total 72 points before and 72 after. The slide does not explain all points outside those bands; omitted points are not assumed to be unranked.

ACT prep near me
4 more grid points in the top seven; 1 fewer in the top three
Top-three points slipped from 48 to 47 (−2.1%), while positions 4–7 increased from 17 to 22 (+29.4%). The combined top seven rose from 65 to 69 (+6.2%).
| Ranking band | Sept. 2 | Oct. 2 | Net change | Relative change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Positions 1–3 | 48 | 47 | −1 point | −2.1% |
| Positions 4–7 | 17 | 22 | +5 points | +29.4% |
| Positions 8–19 | 16 | 12 | −4 points | −25% |
| Combined positions 1–7 | 65 | 69 | +4 points | +6.2% |
How to read the change: The gain here was broader top-seven coverage, rather than stronger top-three coverage. Four fewer points appeared in positions 8–19, and five more appeared in positions 4–7. The one-point top-three decline is included so the improvement is not overstated.
The slide’s +29% headline refers to positions 4–7. It is not a 29% improvement in top-three rankings.
Counts come from slide 6; relative changes are recalculated. Combined positions 1–7 is a subtotal, not an additional group. The three reported bands total 81 points before and 81 after.

4 more grid points in the top three
Top-three points increased from 19 to 23 (+21.1%). Positions 4–7 fell from 21 to 20, leaving the combined top seven up from 40 to 43 (+7.5%).
| Ranking band | Sept. 2 | Oct. 2 | Net change | Relative change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Positions 1–3 | 19 | 23 | +4 points | +21.1% |
| Positions 4–7 | 21 | 20 | −1 point | −4.8% |
| Positions 8–19 | 23 | 24 | +1 point | +4.3% |
| Combined positions 1–7 | 40 | 43 | +3 points | +7.5% |
How to read the change: This query had the largest relative top-three increase among these four comparisons, from a smaller starting count. The 8–19 group also grew by one point, so the results were mixed outside the top three. It is a net increase of four top-three points, not proof of four newly acquired customers or four specific pin transitions.
A 21.1% increase in top-three point count is a relative change, not a 21.1-percentage-point increase in geographic coverage.
Counts come from slide 7; relative changes are recalculated. Combined positions 1–7 is a subtotal, not an additional group. The three reported bands total 63 points before and 67 after. The slide does not explain all points outside those bands; omitted points are not assumed to be unranked.

Where top-three coverage changed.
A map-grid scan measures rankings from multiple search locations. The campaign deck shows a 9×9 grid and a 10-mile radius, with snapshots from September 2 and October 2, 2025. The chart below compares the number of points ranking in positions 1–3 for each query.
| Query | Before → after | Relative change |
|---|---|---|
| SAT tutoring near me | 40 → 43 | +7.5% |
| Tutoring services near me | 35 → 40 | +14.3% |
| ACT prep near me | 48 → 47 | −2.1% |
| Math tutor | 19 → 23 | +21.1% |
Relative change = (after − before) ÷ before. Calculated from the slide counts; rounded to one decimal place.
Three queries gained top-three coverage. ACT prep near me lost one top-three point, while its count in positions 4–7 rose from 17 to 22. This is a mixed local ranking picture, with progress varying by query and search location.
Separately: more Google activity year over year.
These are annual results—not 30-day gains. The deck compares September 2024 with September 2025 and reports increases in calls, website visits, profile views, and overall interactions.
| Metric | Reported change |
|---|---|
| Calls from Google | +69% |
| Business Profile interactions | +63% |
| Website visits from Google | +39% |
| Profile views | +31% |
| Direction requests | 13 more requests |
These figures describe reported Google activity. They are not counts of new students, completed phone conversations, or verified sales. Individual interaction metrics should not be added to the overall interaction increase.
Additional business activity
The same deck reports 127% more inquiries and 133% more academic evaluations in September 2025 compared with September 2024. These are separate business measures; the available summary does not attribute every inquiry or evaluation to Google or to a specific SEO change.
Useful evidence starts with clear measurement.
The annual Business Profile comparison and the map scans cover different periods and measure different things. The annual figures describe profile activity. The scans describe ranking positions at sampled locations on two dates. Neither alone establishes how many students enrolled because of SEO.
Local search also depends on where the searcher is. Google describes relevance, distance, and prominence as key considerations. Profile completeness addresses business information; local rankings still vary with location and competition. Read Google’s local ranking guidance.
For other local business owners, the practical lesson is to connect a documented list of improvements with consistent reporting: what changed in the profile, where search visibility moved, and what happened to measurable customer activity. About these results. Figures on this page come from the Local Howl Huntington case-study deck. The first-month dates and location were confirmed by Josh Sample. Grid calculations use the deck’s counts; the underlying exports have not been independently reconciled. It does not establish campaign-wide revenue or the effect of any single tactic.
Questions business owners ask
What did the Google Business Profile work include?
The deck records category, service and photo updates, local posts, review responses, Q&A, citation cleanup, and 24 new directory listings.
Does a higher map ranking mean more customers?
A higher position can improve visibility, but a map scan measures search placement. Calls, inquiries, evaluations, and enrollments require their own measurement and attribution.
How long did these results take?
The map snapshots are 30 days apart: September 2 to October 2, 2025. Three keywords gained top-three placements and all four gained top-seven placements on a net basis. Josh Sample confirmed this comparison covers the campaign’s first month for the Ellisville location. The separate Google activity figures compare September 2024 with September 2025.
Can these results apply to my business?
The profile and listing work provides a useful starting point for a local SEO review. Your priorities depend on your location, services, competition, and current visibility. A review of your business can identify which changes are relevant.
